If you are new to yoga or just new to this studio, here are some answers to frequently asked (or frequently thought) questions. Let us know if you have more questions, we are here to answer ALL of them!
Do I need to sign up for class before I come? NO. It's nice to sign up for class ahead of time, and for many students it helps with accountability, but not necessary. You can create and log in to your account through the scheduling page. From there you can sign up for classes, see if there's a substitute teacher, cancel your reserved spot, etc. Give us a call if you need help setting up your account.
What do I need to bring to class? You need to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. If you like to wear shorts, just keep in mind that you might be on your back at times with your legs spread in the air, so make choices that will keep you comfortable. Yoga is done without shoes or socks. You can also bring a water bottle, a hand towel (to help with gripping your mat) and your own yoga mat. We have yoga mats to borrow as well.
What if I've never done yoga before, or it's been a while since I was active? No problem. Make sure to let your teacher know if you have any injuries or specific concerns, or you can call Amanda (720-446-6324) ahead of time to talk about your concerns. Our teachers are all really good at breaking the poses down for new students. There is no "perfect" in yoga, no judgement, and no failure. This is not a studio about perfection or competition. There are experienced practitioners alongside newbies, and everyone in between. Just come to class! Know that it might feel strange or even uncomfortable at times, but you can (and should) always go at your own pace and ask questions when you have them. It gets easier quickly, and the benefits will make you glad you came.
I'm coming from work. Is there somewhere for me to change or shower? We have a few changing rooms and there are bathrooms down the hall. We also have access to the nice, clean showers in the locker room in the basement gym if you want to shower, but you will need to bring your own towel and toiletries. Our classes are not heated and tend to be slower than power yoga and fast-paced vinyasa classes, so most students don't seem to sweat too much. We also have lockers available for monthly rental if you want to keep some toiletries or changes of clothes at the studio.
I'm afraid there's all kinds of etiquette I don't know... It's mostly common sense: -Turn your cell phone to silent. -If you're late, or leaving early, enter/leave the studio quietly. (Let the teacher know if you'll be leaving early.) -Clean your mat with the provided cleanser after class. -Sign in on the clipboard or check in with the teacher before class. -At the end of class, when we relax quietly, try to still your body and respect the silence. -We sometimes chant the sound "om" to open or close class. You are welcome to participate, but it is perfectly find if you do not - it can feel awfully foreign at first.
What if I'm running late or need to leave early? We'd rather that you come late than leave early, so that you get to enjoy the relaxation time at the end of class. We also understand that getting to yoga can be hard sometimes, and we want you to come, even if you can't be there for the whole class. Just be respectful when you come in late or, if you have to leave early, please tell your instructor so he or she can watch the clock for you and get you out before the quiet time at the end. We'd rather you come late (or leave early) than not come at all.
I want to get a monthly membership, but I travel a lot for work. Do I have to sign a contract? No, we do not ask for a contract. You are free to come and go as you please. 5, 10 and 20 class cards are also good options for travelers.
